Ke$ha embraces rock lifestyle in video, song and on tour

Ke$ha's lifestyle is like a VH1 "Behind the Music" special in the making. On her tour bus, she has a wall full of photos of naked male groupies.

"Any guy who comes on my bus who thinks they're going to get me -- they have to drop trou at the front of the bus before they can come to the back lounge," she tells me.

Her reason for making men pose for naked photos is simple: "It's fun for me."

"Rock 'n' roll used to consist of drugs, sex and rock 'n' roll. Now with the frantic, overactive media, you're not allowed to go out and get naked, or go crazy," she says.

"So I just keep it rock 'n' roll on my bus."

Ke$ha says her rock star lifestyle isn't so different than what male rock stars do with groupies.

"Why can't chicks do it, too?" she asks.

It's not like Ke$ha, 24, ever hides her partying ways. She sings about them and makes music videos chronicling them.

The video for her star-making song "Tik Tok" begins with Ke$ha crawling out of a bathtub, hung over, then brushing her teeth with Jack Daniels.

That bathtub scene was inspired by a Vegas excursion from L.A.

"The first time I ever woke up in a bathtub was in Vegas," she says.

(The first time?)

Here's the story: One time, she came to Vegas (she was un-famous and not rich) in a red Trans Am she called Death, because someone had keyed "Death" into the side of the car before she bought it.

"So we drove Death to Vegas -- me and three of my friends, who are all fabulous gay men. We had $20 and we went absolutely (expletive) crazy."

She woke up the next morning in a strange tub "surrounded by naked gay men," she says fondly.

"There was no toothpaste, so we all just brushed our teeth with Jack Daniels."

"Tik Tok" was just the beginning of her dance floor hits, from "Your Love Is My Drug" to "Blow" and "Take It Off."

To a pop observer, it seems there's a three-way race among Ke$ha, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. But Ke$ha doesn't see it that way.

"Everybody tries to make it like we're competing. In my mind, we're a wall of very powerful chicks. It's girl power at their finest."

Ke$ha's real enemy is the backlash -- certain music listeners don't like her or don't think she's talented.

But she is very skilled. On tour, she opens her concert by playing a heavy drum, then moves on to guitar, piano, theremin and Kaoss Pad.

She doesn't just leave instrument details up to sound technicians.

"I actually had to rig my theremin. I'm running it through two delay pedals and an arpeggiator. It's out of control," she says.

So as you can see, there's a problem with underestimating Ke$ha. As critic Stephan Lee of Entertainment Weekly wrote of her current tour: "I was surprised ... by how unexpectedly awesome the show was."

What I'm impressed with is Ke$ha's excellent and varied choice of tones and song textures.

When I question her about how she pieced together various songs, she gets excited to talk about the music.

"The riff at the beginning of 'Tik Tok' is a tiny, janky Casio keyboard we found on eBay for $10," she says. "It just instantly sounds silly and fun and not serious, but like a party."

Meanwhile, she wrote the album title song, "Animal," after being inspired at an Arcade Fire concert.

She wanted "Animal" to have that "Arcade Fire or Flaming Lips euphoric chord progression," she says.

For the song "Take It Off," she carefully chose synthesizer tones that evoke "an ominous, dark and twisted dance party."

For all of this musical knowledge, and for her well-chronicled rock star shenanigans, Ke$ha (who grew up poor to middle class in the middle of Tennessee) is being rewarded with riches and fame.

So how does she like being famous so far?

"It's pretty awesome. I can't complain," she says.

"The best part is I get to sing songs I wrote about all the stupid (expletive) I do for a living," she says and laughs.

So this is how you should start thinking about Ke$ha: The silly, skilled singer and multi-instrumentalist who parties and objectifies the opposite sex. That sounds pretty
rock 'n' roll to me.

Ke$ha talks : Glitter , Blue lipstick and a potential beauty line

Ke$ha has designed a new line of watches for Casio Baby-G and yesterday she held a conference in San Francisco to discuss the collaboration. As you can imagine, she was also decked out in her Ke$ha finest, complete with a rhinestone face mask and American flag-style jumpsuit. She talked about her commitment to animals, what's in her purse, and whether there might just be a line of Ke$ha makeup or perfume in the future.

On her design inspiration: "Well, my first album was called Animal, and I'm also the global ambassador for the Humane Society International, so leopard print is a recurring theme in my look, which I like to wear because it brings out the animal inside."

On what's always in her bag: "My bag is like a bottomless pit. But in it is my passport, some Ke$ha condoms, blue lipstick and some glitter."

On what defines her look: "Well, today I wanted to look like a superhero . . . with a really accurate sense of time."

On what else she'd be interested in designing: "Right now I'm in the process of designing a faux fur collection, which would be, obviously, animal friendly. And I want to design race cars."

On whether there's a beauty and fashion line in her future: "I'm sure I'll whip something out. I designed this lovely piece I'm in!"

On what she finds hardest to overcome: "Being in the public eye, because people can say whatever they want about you. And really sticking to my guns; not listening to any negativity.

New Single - 2012

We will not be getting a new K$ single until 2012 sadly unless the album is moved forward.

Sunday, September 4, 2011

Ke$ha: 'I'm an animal'

It’s been a wild two years for dance-pop star Ke$ha.

But if anyone can handle wild, it’s this energetic, plainspoken 24-year-old blonde.

Though she had been writing songs and providing background vocals for the likes of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears since 2005, it wasn’t until Ke$ha was featured on Flo Rida’s massive 2009 hit, Right Round, that her career started to take flight.

Her debut album, Animal, opened at number one on the Billboard Top 100 and has gone double platinum in Canada since its release early last year, and the first single, Tik Tok, broke the record for most digital downloads in a single week.

She opened for pop princess Rihanna this past spring and is currently close to wrapping up the latest leg of her Get Sleazy Tour with opening acts LMFAO and Spank Rock.

The tour stops in Calgary at the Saddledome on Tuesday and Edmonton’s Rexall Place the following night.

The Nashville native gets down and dirty about her live show, critics who don’t take her music seriously, not to mention the pressure to look and act like a cookie-cutter pop star.

* * *

Q: You’ve been going full throttle for a while now. Have you had any chance to sit back and reflect on your success?

A: I haven’t had more than an hour, truly an hour, of reflection time. I have so much to do. I think I’ve been given the most amazing opportunity and I’d like to take advantage of it and work as hard as I can while I have the opportunity. So I don’t sit down and reflect a lot.

Q: How prepared were you for your fairly quick rise to fame?

A: I don’t think you can ever be prepared for something like this … But I think everything happens for a reason. Of course there were moments when I didn’t know exactly what I was doing. But you learn from it.

I think exactly where I am today is perfect and I’m really, really lucky. The tour is going really, really well. And to be on tour with a lot of my close friends is exciting. We go around and party for a living and inspire other people to have a good time. I think it’s all worked out.

Q: Your opening set on the Rihanna tour was pretty eye-catching. What are you offering up on your headline tour?

A: It’s bigger, it’s longer. I have more dancers, crazy lights, costume changes. It’s just a really good time. I always say it’s a sensory assault. From the time Spank Rock comes through LMFAO to when I get on stage, it’s wildness.

Love it or hate it, I pretty much designed and created everything you’re going to see. I picked the openers, I designed the lights, picked the costumes, wrote every song you’re going to hear. I play drums, I play guitar, synths, you name it, I had a hand in it.

Q: Where do you think your music fits in? With all the pain, suffering and hatred we read about every day, I think we need a party monster like Ke$ha to even things out.

A: My first record is called Animal for a number of reasons, but mostly because animals play with each other even as adults. We as human beings have trained ourselves to wake up, go to work, eat, go to bed and do it again the next day.

But I do think it’s important to have moments of fun. I don’t think we value it as a society. We don’t put away time for fun, people dismiss it. But I think it’s really important for our brain and endorphins. When you dance, I think it’s a really positive thing that is overlooked. If I can take somebody who’s had a really bad day at work and put them in a slightly better mood with a song, I think it’s magical.

Q: Of course, the downside of writing songs about drinking, dancing, partying and chasing cute boys is that you’re not always taken seriously as an artist.

A: Of course I’ve felt that. But it’s youthful, irreverent, celebratory record and if people can’t see beyond that, they’re the ones missing out. I think judgment and cynicism are two really tragic qualities in humans.

But when you come to my show you really see that it’s a judgment-free zone.

Everybody is covered in glitter, ripped-up stockings, blue lipstick on, truly just coming there to go wild and be themselves.

And those are really the people I’m speaking to. I speak to dreamers and young people, and people who are young at heart and free spirits.

They can come to my show and look crazy and act like total jackasses and it’s fine. I encourage people to be raw and visceral.

Q: You don’t seem self-conscious at all.

A: I’m far from perfect. But I think we should all celebrate who we are. We don’t have to be perfect to do that. I wrote We Are Who We Are because there are a lot of gay teen suicides and that’s so tragic to me that people feel they can’t be themselves so they have to kill themselves, something is seriously ass-backwards in a society where people can’t feel like they can be themselves.

Q: You’ve been criticized at times about your weight and your less-polished style. How much pressure do you feel to fit into the pop star mould?

A: Sometimes I try to look hot. But other times I just don’t give a f***.

A lot of times I go out looking like a homeless person and that’s okay. Because I’m more concerned about what I’m doing. Yesterday I went rock climbing and if someone was to take a picture of me I wouldn’t have looked like a pop princess. But quite frankly, I just don’t give a f***.

Just because I sing pop music I’m not going to have my hair and makeup and wear high heels every time I leave the house.

I’m not ready to commit that much time or effort to doing that. I’m an animal.

Q: How do feel when magazines publish unflattering photos of you or when you read negative comments about yourself?

A: I don’t pick up trash magazines or go on the Internet except to check my e-mail. I try to steer clear because again I feel that cynicism, judgment, hatred and negativity is just a nasty cycle to fall into. I’d rather just be oblivious and positive and try to perpetuate super positive energy.

Maxwell Interviews Ke$ha On Q102

The pop superstar is currently on tour with "Party Rock Anthem" duo LMFAO, and we can only imagine what goes on behind closed doors on the road. Whiskey? Check. Shufflin'? Check... And certainly LOTS and LOTS of glitter. We wouldn't necessarily have thrown "nudity" in the mix... until now.

Ke$ha and LMFAO's Red Foo and Sky Blu stopped by Philly radio station Q102 Wednesday afternoon ahead of their Philadelphia show, and Ke$ha greeted her tourmates in the hallway in true party girl fashion - she mooned them! Talk about making an entrance... and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the day.

In the radio interview, Ke$ha said that she thinks writing a good song is better than sex, revealed that she'd like to see Kim Kardashian and President Obama naked and even got a lap dance from DJ Maxwell. She truly is hot AND dangerous

Alice Cooper talks ke$ha

It seems like everyone wants to play with you. I read you were just on stage in Europe with Ke$ha.

We met Ke$ha, who I think is going to be more of a rock singer than a diva. She's got rock singer mentality rather than 'I wanna be Beyonce ... or Lady Gaga.' Lady Gaga is in a world of her own. She's created her own universe, which is great. I totally applaud what she's doing. I'm not that much into her music but I can listen to it and go, "That's really good." Ke$ha should have her own rock band behind her. I mean, a real rock band. And she would be a killer lead singer. And I pushed her in that direction. When we wrote this song, "What Baby Wants," she actually plays the devil on the album. She's a perfect devil. I met her at the Grammys, and I just thought there was something about her that was very rock-star-ish, so I wanted her to be on the album. And she writes her own songs, too. So we sat her down and we ended up writing this song, and the funny thing is, the most disturbing lyrics were hers.

Ke$ha dances to her own beat

Don’t call Ke$ha a pop princess.

The singer, known for her radio hits Tik Tok, Blow, We R Who We R, Take It Off and Your Love Is My Drug, shuns labels and branding, preferring to do things on her own terms.

If her rebellious nature and strong-willed attitude is any mark of her success, it’s worked for the singer, who was once so broke she lived in a car. (Some time later, with fame nowhere in sight, she snuck into Prince’s L.A. mansion to leave him a demo.)

It was Miami rapper Flo Rida who took notice of the singer, using her as a guest vocal spot on his hit Right Round. We chatted with the 24-year-old Nashville resident, who is performing at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Bayfront Park, Klipsch Amphitheater, in Miami.

Do you like touring?

I love it. I seriously feel like I’m living and dying when I’m on stage. In the beginning, I come alive. By the end of the concert, I have given the crowd everything inside of me.

You must be tired after all that singing and dancing.

I usually don’t get to sleep. [The crew and I] are kind of like vampires, we don’t sleep until the sun comes up.

What has been your favorite moment on tour so far?

It was in Hungary. My mother, who is part Hungarian, was there. I was playing in the town square in front of 300,000 people, and looked out at the horizon and was brought to tears. There were so many people in the crowd who were singing along. It was really beautiful.

You have a very unique fashion style. What’s your inspiration?

Honestly, I have no idea what you call it. I kind of feel like a sexy hobo, like a really attractive homeless person. I’ll find crazy s--- at Goodwill, rip it up, then tie it back together. I don’t like brands.

Secondhand or not – you wear it well.

Confidence is the key! When I wore a trash bag to the [2010 MTV] VMAs, I had confidence.

On your website, you have an option for fans to pick out what kind of animal they are. What kind of animal are you?

I’m a Narwhal, a unicorn of the sea. It’s a mystical, magical creature with a big, long horn.

But what does it mean?

I’m an animal lover and advocate. I relate to animals. They operate off of their instincts instead of being told how they’re supposed to act. We should all act like animals.

It’s kind of rebellious.

I’m trying to bring a message to the youth, to be yourself. I’ve had fans approach me crying, telling me how much my music helped them.

Ke$ha Blows Up Atlanta

Pop star Ke$ha was forced to cut short the first concert on her North American tour on Saturday after her stage set caught on fire.

The Tik Tok hitmaker kicked off the summer leg of her Get Sleazy tour in Georgia this weekend, but the trek got off to a rough start when a lighting rig went up in flames towards the end of her performance.

Due to safety precautions, the singer had to shut down the show early, but Ke$ha remained upbeat about the incident and took the opportunity to warn her tourmates LMFAO to get ready for a crazy ride.

Taking to her Twitter.com account to share the scary story, she wrote, "@LMFAO UM. FIRST NIGHT OF TOUR AND THE PLACE CATCHES ON FIRE. THIS TOUR IS BEYOND.WORDS.ILL."

The singer will play more than 25 shows across the continent before wrapping up the tour in Phoenix, Arizona on September 20.

Ke$ha Live @ Pier7 July 2011

Ke$ha To Be Featured On Alice Cooper's New LP

Alice Cooper’s widely anticipated new album, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, will be released September 13, 2011, by Universal Music Enterprises. Recorded with longtime collaborator Bob Ezrin, who produced the original multi-platinum Welcome To My Nightmare album in 1975, the album picks up right where they left off, with Alice trapped in his own warped mind.

The original release is an all-time rock classic that spawned a worldwide theatrical tour and pioneering U.S. TV special, and certified Alice Cooper as a visionary trailblazer whose influence persists today in rock, metal, pop, punk, theatre, television, film and much more.

More than 35 years later, Alice and Ezrin have resurrected the horror and humor for a new generation.
“This is Alice’s nightmare 35 years later,” explains Alice, “Bob and I created this character and we know how to write for him. I play the part but we’re not writing for me, we’re writing for Alice. We kept the first Nightmare album very personal to us, on this one we found more humor and we were more open. This was our world and we want to present it to the fans. The original album was my first solo album after all those huge hit records with the original band and now that nightmare is exposed, this one can be a little bit more open. The music crosses all sorts of boundaries; we went where the lyrics took us.”

There is an array of collaborators on the new album, including original Alice Cooper members Denis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith reunited on 3 tracks; global pop superstar Ke$ha, who affectionately calls Alice “dad”; and legendary Alice and Lou Reed guitarist Steve Hunter, who is part of Alice’s current touring band and featured prominently on the first Nightmare album.

Musically, the album ranges far and wide, from trashing disco to garage punk, pop balladry to a rocking number, very much in the spirit of the Rolling Stones. And then there’s the ballad “Something To Remember Me By,” described by Alice as “the prettiest song we have ever released.”

Glimpses of themes from the original album are intertwined throughout, each track representing a different aspect of Alice’s nightmare.

From the opener, “I Am Made Of You,” through the already established live favorite and first single “I’ll Bite Your Face Off,” to the surprising duet with Ke$ha, “What Baby Wants,” this album is a reminder that albums just aren’t made this way anymore.

And musicians do not play together like Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith anymore.
“I wanted a ’70s feel for ‘When Hell Comes Home,’ says Alice, “and I didn’t even have to ask for it, it’s just how they play and they did it live in the studio. When they got done playing the basic track, Bob and I just looked at each other, that sound is built into their DNA. We didn’t need to go and fix anything. The way they finished was a little bit ragged, and that’s the way we used to finish songs, that’s what I like about it.”

Co-writers on various songs include the aforementioned Bob Ezrin, Ke$ha, Dunaway, Bruce and Smith, plus Buckcherry’s Keith Nelson, Desmond Child (who famously co-wrote and produced “Poison” with Alice), longtime collaborator Dick Wagner, current touring band member Chuck Garric, and film composer Jeremy Rubolino.

“That’s my rebellion,” says Alice of the more surprising guests, “I like people that don’t belong and yet what they’re doing works perfectly. I don’t care where it comes from, as long as it’s right. If you tell me something doesn’t work, I’ll work my head off until it does then shove it down your throat.”

“I think a lot of my audience is going to go ‘KE$HA!?’, but she probably wrote the most wicked lyrics in the song – we had to rein her in. I like people to know that just because artists are put in a pigeon hole, that doesn’t mean that’s what they are. Give people a little room.”

With Steve Hunter, one of rock’s great guitarists, added to the band’s lineup of guitarists Damon Johnson and Tommy Henriksen, bassist Chuck Garric, and drummer Glen Sobel, Alice has been tearing up venues worldwide on his 2011 “No More Mr. Nice Guy” tour.

Alice gave fans an up close and highly personal experience in June with a surprise performance at London’s legendary 100 Club, when actor Johnny Depp joined the band on guitar. Alice showcased the powerful band that had blown away the Download Festival crowd the previous weekend.

This year, the original Alice Cooper group was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and Alice was honored with both the Kerrang! Icon Award in the U.K. and the Revolver Golden God Award in the U.S.

Ke$ha Tones It Down for Del.

HARRINGTON -- If anyone at the Delaware State Fair was curious why the hard-partying Ke$ha was kicking off her North American summer tour in Harrington, the pop star cleared things up at the top of her show Tuesday night.

"Delaware!" the heavily-mascaraed 24-year-old shouted, wearing a black one-piece paired with ripped fishnets. "Are you ready to party?"

The high-pitched screams of the crowd, dominated by school-age girls and teens, gave Ke$ha the answer she was looking for before breaking open a 90-minute, 15-song set of her biggest hits.

Given the sometimes raunchy nature of Ke$ha's act -- after all, this is called the "Get $leazy Tour" -- fair officials had promised a PG show from the trash pop queen, whose regular shows normally veer closer to an R rating. The originally scheduled opening act, dirty rap duo Spank Rock, had already been bounced in favor of the Seattle pop act Champagne Champagne.

Still, at the time of the show's announcement, some fairgoers were not happy with the booking, especially considering the fair's family-friendly atmosphere. And leading up to the show, it was hard to imagine what a PG-rated Ke$ha show would look like.

Just this week, Ke$ha promoted her tour in Rolling Stone magazine by saying it would feature a sexually suggestive confetti cannon that she would ride. And earlier this month, Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who was co-hosting "The O'Reilly Factor," condemned Ke$ha, calling her "cultural rot."

On this clear summer night, Ke$ha never got to ride her cannon, seemingly abiding by the fair's rules. And while her performance was somewhat tame, her language was anything but. Ke$ha did not censor her lyrics, leading to a show peppered with four-letter words. She also let an f-bomb or two fly during song introductions.

While the show didn't quite live up to the PG promise, it did rev up thousands of Ke$ha's fans who crowded the track to see the pop world's latest bad girl in person. (The show did not sell out, however, and there were plenty of seats available in the Grandstand.)
Her songs about parties, boys and backstabbing wrapped in a message of independence were perfectly tailored for the crowd.

They loved it when Ke$ha flashed her wicked sense of humor with "Dinosaur," which details getting hit on by a much older man. As back-up dancers hunched behind her using walkers as if they were in a nursing home, she rhymed, "Not long till you're a senior citizen/And you can strut around with that sexy tank of oxygen."

Her fist-pumping dance grooves, most of which are lathered in a thick '80s synth and earth-shaking bass, are undeniably catchy when you're driving with the sunroof open on a summer night. And when Ke$ha is center stage in her glitter-covered garbage chic glory with thousands of fans celebrating with her, you have a massive dance party.

As her instantly recognizable chorus to "TiK ToK" dug in -- "Don't stop, make it pop/DJ, blow my speakers up" -- and gold glitter was shot into the crowd from both the front of the stage and back by the Grandstand, Harrington was the only place in the world to be for diehard Ke$ha fans.

To close out the party-themed show, Ke$ha resurrected the Beastie Boys' "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)" -- a song that came out the year she was born.

Even though Ke$ha doesn't get many industry accolades -- she has been nominated for more than 25 music awards but only won Best New Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards -- she co-writes all her songs and has cranked out plenty of hits with her 2010 debut, "Animal," and follow-up EP, "Cannibal." ("Animal" was the 10th best-selling album in the U.S. last year with 1.14 million albums sold.)

For fair officials, the Ke$ha booking injected more musical diversity into a concert series where country superstars like Toby Keith and Brad Paisley are usually the biggest acts. And in the end, the Delaware State Fair landed the opening night of one of the most watched and anticipated pop tours of the summer.
Fans came. They danced in glitter. And all that mattered was the beat.

Ke$ha To Perform In Mexico For The First Time

MTV Latin America has announced that the international concert event, World Stage Mexico, will feature pop sensation Ke$ha in her first performance in Mexico.
The grand musical event will take place in Mexico City for the second consecutive year.

"One of MTV's greatest music properties is back in Latin America! The first-ever World-Stage event in the region took place just last year in Mexico City and was a huge success on air, online and across social networks," Fernando Gaston, a senior vice president of MTV/Vh1 Latin America, said in a statement.

"This year, we're hoping to deliver more memorable musical moments that resonate with our audience and bring this local MTV Latin America production to MTV's fans around the world," he added.

Ke$ha is currently on the "Get $leazy" world tour.

"MTV World Stage Mexico" with Ke$ha will air on MTV Latin America Friday, Sept. 23, at 9 p.m.

Rihanna talks "Ke$ha"

Rihanna talks Ke$ha - they toured together in 2010 in North America.

‘’There’s a pack. It’s me, GaGa, Katy Perry, Beyoncé... who else? Ke$ha for sure,” she told Glamour magazine. “Women are definitely dominating music right now, and that’s because we are competitive beings. I feel like music hasn’t been this exciting in a while.” She added: “All my friends are guys, to be completely honest. But when I met [Katy Perry], it was such a breath of fresh air. I just couldn’t believe this chick had no edit button... Katy and Lady GaGa came out of the gate exactly the way they think, the way they wanna dress, the way they wanna speak.’’

Ke$ha "Cream" Interview

You guys know how much I love you, right? I love you guys so much that I’m willing to share my most disastrous interview since The Great Biz Markie Debacle of 2010. I’m a dude that spends the majority of his days talking to weird hippies and strange punks and people that are barely on the radar of your average human being, and that’s great and cool … but — just like in high school — when I actually get the chance to talk to the popular girl I turn into Nardwaur. Which is totally not cool, unless you’re actually Narwaur, which I’m not. Thankfully. Lesson learned: I should probably just stick to interviewing weird hippies. It’s less embarrassing. Also, soliciting questions from my weirdo hippie-punk friends is probably not the best idea. But all in all, she was a champ, I was a chump and somehow that made for a good article. (I think it was good. That’s what folks told me. I can never tell with these things.) Y’all can peep the carnage after the jump. Because I love you.

Nashville Cream: Last time I wrote an article about you we didn’t get to talk.
KE$HA: Which one did you write?
NC: I wrote the article about not interviewing you.
KE$HA: Was this the one about the heroin and butt-plug one?
NC: Yes!
KE$HA: You wrote that one?
NC: Yeah, that was me.
KE$HA: That was a funny one. I liked that one.
NC: Excellent. So I guess now that we’ve covered heroin and butt-plugs, let’s talk about volunteering. I think it’s really cool that you’re working with Hands On Nashville for this one.
KE$HA: Yeah, well I’m really excited about it too, because, as I’ve said, I don’t know if you’ve read the quote I gave with it, but I always used to sneak into shows. It was just kind of like a pastime of mine.
NC: Definitely.
KE$HA: So then I thought well some people that maybe don’t wanna potentially put themselves in an illegal situation, potentially get arrested or don’t wanna make out with roadies, they can just help out instead and get a free ticket.
NC: That’s very thoughtful of you. Although I think that the roadies are probably gonna be pissed at you.
KE$HA: Yeah, well… I was like 17. They were lucky motherfuckers.
NC: OK, so, how is the tour treating you? You’re in Europe right now, right?
KE$HA: Yes, I’m in Belfast right now, and I’m about to play a show here. I’ve been doing kind of like the festival circuit in Europe, but the tour’s been doing really good. I’m playing with LMFAO here. Much like I’ll be playing with LMFAO in Nashville when I come to Nashville on the 31st of July. So, it’s going really well. It’s just like they’re totally nuts, and we’re totally mental, and it’s just like a really intense dance party for about two and a half hours.
NC: That sounds like a good time. Actually, I caught your last Nashville show, and that was pretty awesome. The benefit you did for the flood back in …
KE$HA: Oh yeah, the flood benefit at the Limelight.
NC: Yeah, yeah. That show was insane. Just in terms of like how hot and sweaty it was. I’m expecting more of the same. Oh, one of my friends wanted me to ask you what your all-time favorite show at Next Generation was or if you ever snuck in there?
KE$HA: Yes, wait, Next Generation, is that the place in … that was in Brentwood, right?
NC: Yeah, it was.
KE$HA: Yeah, I used to go all the time. Wait, there was a band. The lead singer of The Pink Spiders …
NC: Silent Friction.
KE$HA: Yes. Yes. I have seen them play there when I was in high school, like 9th grade. That place is actually really close to my house.
NC: Let’s see, I had a couple of other requests. Folks wanted to know what your favorite mid-Murfreesboro band was?
KE$HA: Oh God, I don’t remember. It’s been so long. Jesus. I don’t remember.
NC: Yeah, there’s no real reason to. Somebody wanted to know exactly how “Brentwood” you were and if you knew the weekend hours of Joey’s House of Pizza?
KE$HA: No, not very Brentwood. I actually didn’t hang out with a lot of people from high school. I hung out with a few people from high school, but for the most part we would always drive downtown. We would go to the Exit/In and try to sneak into shows, or we would go run around Centennial Park and climb up into the trees, or we would sneak into the Springwater and try to drink beers, or we would try to crash frat parties.
NC: Nice. Time well spent.
KE$HA: Yeah, we also threw a bunch of parties at the Motel 8. We threw hotel parties and got kicked out.
NC: Sounds a lot like my high school experience. Really formative experiences. Nothing quite like the first time you get like frisked by the police when your trying to hide booze in the trunk of your car at 17. So, I’m gonna kinda keep on the local thing. When you’re back in town, what are you doing these days when you’re hanging out in town? Are you just like keeping a low profile or working?
KE$HA: Yeah, I keep a relatively low profile. Last time I was in town I ended up hanging out with some friends of mine. The Black Keys had moved to town, so we ended up getting to play some music, and we recorded some kinda crazy stuff.
NC: Nice. Oh, so that answers my question about the non-Twitter-beef Twitter beef, ’cause I thought that … your interchange with Patrick over, what was it? The Video Music Awards or some award show.
KE$HA: Oh no, I was at his house. We were playing music all day, and I was at his house and he was Twittering me from across the table. We were fighting about shrimp because he loves shrimp, and I personally think they are the cockroaches of the ocean, so we kinda got into it over the shrimp topic.
NC: That’s excellent. I’m glad I got the inside scoop. Yeah, shrimp are kinda weird. It’s like chewing on a sponge.
KE$HA: Yeah, they’re gross. If you’ve ever seen one alive, you would never actually want to eat a dead one.
NC: Yeah, they’re weird little bugs. I mean they’re overgrown sea monkeys.
KE$HA: Oh, gross.
NC: Yeah, think about that next time. Any other, hmmm, any other shellfish you’re not into?
KE$HA: I don’t do shellfish. I don’t do bottom feeders.
NC: Excellent. Good to know. Not that I plan on cooking shellfish anytime soon.
KE$HA: Yeah, don’t send me shellfish and/or shrimp. Please. Ever.
NC: Cool. Well, other fun Nashville things. Where do you get your dry cleaning done? Do you have a big dry cleaning bill? It seems like you would.
KE$HA: You know, I probably dry clean my tour outfits. I do four costume changes, so those I dry clean, but I’m rarely in Nashville. I think I’ve lived in Nashville for about a year now, and I’ve been there a grand total of … if you tallied up all the time, about a week-and-a-half.
NC: Oh yeah, you’ve been … I mean, how many days did you play last year? Like a couple hundred right?
KE$HA: I’ve played more than I can count or keep track of, but all I know is when I come to Nashville, it’s usually for a day, maybe two at a time. The last time I was in town, I got to come home for about five days, so that was like a really extended vacation for me in Nashville.
NC: Excellent.

MTV’s Got Issues Body Image – Ke$ha

Thursday, July 21, 2011

T-Pain’s love affair with Ke$ha continues. The Auto-Tune King is working on a collaboration with the pop starlet.

“I am going to be in the studio with Ke$ha. She’s overseas right now, but when she comes back, it’s definitely on,” Teddy P. told Ryan Seacrest. “I got a song I’m working on right now with her and Pitbull, so it’s gonna be pretty dope.”

The odd couple, who dubbed themselves “K-Pain,” was spotted together at a strip club in Las Vegas after meeting at a radio station concert in May. “I’m not saying @keshasuxx and i had sex or anything I’m just sayin I love that ‘fuck everybody else’ attitude,” he previously tweeted. “She dresses how she wants she performs the way she wants, she does HER.”

How Rock & Roll is Ke$ha?

Alice Cooper Joines Ke$ha Live

Rock legend Alice Cooper recently joined Ke$ha onstage during a cover of his song "School's Out". Cooper - who Ke$ha affectionately refers to as “dad” -- stopped by to say hello during her soundcheck Tuesday afternoon, where the two decided to surprise her fans with the classic Alice track as one of her encoresongs…with the rock legend himself at the helm.

Minutes after the event took place...

This isn't the first time Ke$ha joined the legend onstage either! Below is a picture of the together backstage...

Digital Spy Interview

It’s been a busy couple of years for America’s filthiest pop gal Ke$ha. Since unleashing her worldwide breakout hit ‘Tik Tok’ in ‘09, she has gone on to release a string of boozy party hits, expanded her debut album Animal into the meatier Cannibal, and is responsible for Britney Spears’s biggest worldwide hit since ‘Toxic’. With her ‘$leazy’ tour arriving in the UK this month, we phoned her up to find out what fans can expect from her live shows, as well as that all-important second album.

Will there be any changes to your ‘Get $leazy’ tour when you bring it to the UK later this month?
“No, it’s going to be just as sleazy. Actually, I feel like I could get a little more sleazier in the UK. You guys are kind of more cool with more s**t than America is. I do dismember a person and drink blood from an actual heart.”

So are UK audiences the best in the world?
“Honestly, every time I’ve ever played in the UK people just go so f**king mental, it’s amazing. I live for that. That’s why I play shows – to give people a place to go and go f**king crazy. In the UK, and especially my London shows, people definitely take advantage of that. We’ve had police and firemen called mutliple times to my shows here and everyone just comes dressed as wild animals. I love it.”

Are you planning to release any more singles from Cannibal?
“I would love to release ‘The Harold Song’, but I actually don’t know what the next single is going to be. It’s all being discussed at the moment. I wish I could tell you, but I don’t actually know yet.”

Have you thought about what a music video for ‘The Harold Song’ would be like?
“I have actually. I’ve written the video treatment, but I can’t tell you! It’s very dramatic. I’ll keep you guys posted. I think I’m going to make a video for it either way, because I have a really beautiful video idea. Whether it’s a single or not, you can definitely be looking out for a video.”

How is work going on your next album?
“I’m writing constantly about all my crazy experiences across the world, so I have a lot of music I’ve already written. I haven’t turned that material into a record yet, but it’s definitely coming along. No final decisions have been made.”

How many songs have you written so far?
“Oh God, I have so many songs! Songs will leak and I don’t even remember writing them. I’ve written about 200. How many songs have I written recently? I honestly couldn’t say.”

You recently revealed that you were making a ’70s rock record; what did you mean by that?
“Yeah, that’s what I’ve been listening to a lot recently and I think it’s so ballsy and I love that.”

Has that been inspired by your flamboyant stage shows?
“Totally. I’ve been playing a lot of guitar and so it’s quite exciting to think about threading that into the new material and just making it better and better.”

What ’70s rock artists have you been listening to for inspiration?
“I’ve been listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and probably the one CD I haven’t taken out of my record player in a long time is Iggy Pop’s The Idiot.”

Are there any other sounds you would like to play around with?
“I definitely want the next record to be experimental and I would love to play with all the different sounds of the music I listen to. I really want some dirty guitar and I wouldn’t mind if there were elements of blues.”

Have you decided which producers you would like to work with yet?
“I haven’t yet. Of course I’m going to work with Doctor Luke and Max Martin on some songs, but I would also love to work with some maybe not-so-obvious producers.”

Anyone in mind?
“I’ve been trying to get the Dust Brothers (Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys) on board for a while now, who have also done a lot of Beck records. I was also speaking to my friend Paul Nicholls last night, who is a DJ and also an amazing producer, so I really want to work with him – he’s really talented.”

You wrote Britney Spears’s last single ‘Till The World Ends’; did you get to meet her?
“I didn’t get to see her record the track, but I have met her and she’s super sweet. She’s the queen of pop music, so it was quite a compliment that she wanted to record it. For her to then put it out as a single is f**king amazing. That song was written specifically for Britney – I put my brain in Britney Spears land and wrote that whole song for her.”

Are you going to try to get her to return the favour and appear on your album?
“Totally, I would f**king love that. She’s an icon!”

Are you writing for anyone else at the moment?
“I get approached a lot to write for other people. Right now I’m just being bizarre and writing about my experiences, so I don’t really want to give them to somebody else because it wouldn’t be true to them. If I write for someone else I want to make it personal to them and I don’t really have the time at the moment to focus on somebody else. I’m obsessed about my tour and the UK shows at the moment. I’m a little OCD with what I’m doing now – I just want to be f**king perfect.”

Have you written a song and thought it would suit another artist more?
“Yeah, there was a song I wrote for myself and for whatever reason it didn’t end up on the record and somebody else really wanted to record it – so I let her, but usually I don’t like doing it that way. It was for Miranda Cosgrove.”

KISS FM (UK) Wireless Festival

Until her Get Sleazy tour returns to North America on 27th of July kicking off in Delaware along with LMFAO and Spank Rock, Ke$ha continues making her rounds in Europe and, more specifically as of now, the UK. Ready to take the stage during the annual music celebration, she was on-hand for the second day of the Wireless Festival in London, England on Saturday (July 2).

Looking glitter gorgeous, the 24-year-old sat down for an interview with Kiss FM and partook in a photocall at the Hyde Park venue before delving into her always-entertaining performance - with the event drawing over 60,000 spectators.

Tweeting as she got into costume prior to her concert efforts, Ke$ha wrote, "HYDE PARK gettin glittered."

The "TiK ToK" singer later teased fans about a possible surprise, as she added, "Mom might dress as the dancing wiener if u guys r lucky."

Ke$ha & Fredic Jameson

“You wouldn’t think we had stuff to talk about,” Ke$ha, the 25-year-old diva of gritty dance-pop, said on a recent spring Saturday at the Bowery Hotel. “There’s like, so much stuff, it’s hard not to talk about stuff,” she said, laughing. “He loves to talk!”

If the “We R Who We R” singer seems uncharacteristically defensive—everyone from her yoga instructor to her mediation coach has described her as friendly and warm—it’s only because a new high-profile friendship (and maybe more!) is the subject of spurious gossip within tabloids and academic quarterlies. Three weeks ago, at Ashley Tisdale’s Hamptons bash celebrating the success of Ashley Tisdale’s West Hollywood party from the week prior, Ke$ha arrived with a YSL carryall on one arm and postmodernist Fredric Jameson on the other.

“F is amazing,” she gushed. “I’ll be, like, complaining about my music-video director, and he’ll just put everything in perspective by being like, ‘The end of the bourgeois ego, or monad, no doubt brings with it the end of the psychopathologies of that ego—what I have been calling the waning of affect. But it means the end of much more—the end, for example, of style, in the sense of the unique and the personal, the end of the distinctive individual brush stroke (as symbolized by the emergent primacy of mechanical reproduction),’ or something, and he’s right.”

She continued, pointing to her ripped Blue Devils sweatshirt. “He teaches at Duke, so the long-distance thing is tough. And that rumor in the New York Review of Books is …” she trailed off, picking at a glittery bead in her hair.

Pic's from Ke$ha's set at Glastonbury

She's no stranger to rocking out on stage in a variety of skimpy outfits.

But in honour of her performance at Glastonbury last night, TiK ToK singer Ke$ha took to the stage wearing a ripped American flag T-shirt over a sparkly gold leotard.

The 24-year-old singer also donned a pair of light-up sunglasses and holey tights as she performed some of her hit tracks for the crowd.
It was the second day of performances at the festival for Ke$ha, who had taken to the stage in the East Dance tent the day before for a surprise set for fans as well.

After her performance, Ke$ha tweeted: 'My throat was bleeding.there's nothing more worth my blood than my fans. Ill scream till I bleed all summer long for u guys.'
She later added: 'Tomorrow!!Dance tent!! again!! I've been f***ing waiting my whole life for the chance to play glastonbury!!'

Ke$ha Praises Rihanna

Ke$ha is a big fan of Rihanna - both as a person and for her music ability too. The Blow singer previously toured with RiRi as her opening support act and has now heaped praise on the Bajan beauty. "Rihanna is the best - so sweet and beautiful with such a great voice," gushed Ke$ha. "She puts on such a wild show. She’s fantastic," she told the Daily Star, adding to the newspaper: "When I went out on the road with her that was my first time touring arenas. "I’m just glad I have any fans. Playing to any number of people is awesome." Speaking of Ke$ha performing live - she'll be bringing her Get $leazy tour to the UK next month - you can get tickets here for her shows in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

Ke$ha talks Glasto, Britney and her next album

Whiskey-loving, party-starting pop-rapper Ke$ha is swapping the LA club scene this weekend for the muddy fields of Glastonbury. We caught up with the TiK ToK singer to find out what she has in store for festival goers, as well as her plans for her next album and why she’s collecting fan’s teeth.

You’re about to take the stage at Glastonbury. How are you feeling about performing at such an iconic festival?

I’m so excited about Glastonbury! It’s always epitomised success in my mind. It’s really exciting. I’ve wanted to play it for ages.

Considering it’s traditionally been a rock and indie festival, do you think the fact that more dance and pop acts are performing means the genres are being taken more seriously these days?

I’d never really thought of it like that but perhaps, and I love that because writing a pop song that can be successful all over the world in countries that don’t even speak English and connect to people. I have respect for people who can write amazing pop songs in the same way that I have respect for somebody who can write incredible indie music and rock’n’roll. I think there’s a craft to writing all different kinds of music.

What do you think about Beyonce headlining?

I’m a massive fan! I’ve always wanted to see her in concert, actually. Oh my god, her Billboard performance? Incredible.

You’ve also been quoted as saying you would like to join Britney on her new tour. Do you think that’s likely?

Well, if we’re ever in the same city at the same time then I’ll totally crash her tour!

You obviously wrote Till The World Ends and gave it to Britney. Is there a Britney song from her back catalogue that you wish had been yours to perform?

I’m obsessed with the song Toxic. I think it’s one of the best pop songs ever written.

You write all your own songs, as well for other people. Is it easier or harder to write for someone else?

It’s very different. I enjoy it. I like being able to put my brain into other people’s brain. I’ve written for Miley Cyrus and Britney and a bunch of other people and it’s fun to change it up a bit. When I’m writing for myself it’s really personal and very, very honest. When I’m writing for other people, I try to put myself in their shoes.

You’ve featured on singles with 3OH!3, Andre 300 and Taio Cruz. Are there any female artists you’d like to collaborate with in the future?

I love Adele. I’ve been listening to her recently and she’s so talented. I’d love to meet her. She’s amazing.

Your EP, Cannibal, was released in the UK earlier this year. Do you have a favourite track, and has that changed since doing the Sleazy tour and playing the tracks live?

I have never written such an intimate song as The Harold Song so I’m really proud of that one. I always like to talk sh*t and have my bad ass front, but that song is very genuine and very honest and very vulnerable. I do like that song a lot. I think that’s one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written. Playing it live can be hard to sing because it’s so real.

Rolling Stone magazine said the EP proves you “would kick Lady Gaga’s ass in a freestyle battle.” Do you think that’s true and how do you feel about being compared to other female artists?

Y’know, I get it all the time. I get compared to everyone and their brother. I’m really not trying to be anyone else. I’m rapping when I wanna rap, I’m singing when I wanna sing, I’m screaming when I wanna scream. Compare me to whoever you want and comparing me to a successful, strong woman like Lady Gaga is a huge compliment but I do think I’m very different to anybody out right now. Everyone has their talent but I think what I bring is very different.

A track called Tease Me by you recently leaked on the internet. Is it an offcut from Cannibal or a brand new track?

Yeah, I’ve written so many songs and honestly I know this sounds like bullsh*t but I’ve been writing since I was sixteen and I don’t even remember writing that song! I listened to and I was like, “that is me…” but I don’t remember writing it. I’ve written hundreds of songs, hundreds, and Tease Me must have been from when I was seventeen, eighteen. It’s a cool song though!

Have you started working on a fully-fledged second album yet?

I have! I’ve been writing as I’ve been touring and traveling the world and having all these crazy experiences! I’ve been writing a lot! I haven’t gone into the studio but all I know is that the next record is definitely going to have an extremely visceral attitude to do it.

Its been announced that TiK ToK was the biggest selling digital single in the world last year. How does that feel? Is that difficult to get your head around?

All the statistics go over my head. It’s very flattering but it’s not something I focus on. The thing I take most seriously is writing good music and performing for my fans and really connecting with them. That’s the most important thing to me. Even if I only perform to ten people, I take it just as seriously and give 100% to the point where I feel like I’m going to vomit! That statistic is amazing though – I didn’t even know that!

What is it about that song that seemed to connect with so many people?

It’s probably because I’m just being a total jackass! It’s really fun at a time when the world has been having our issues and its been rough for a lot of people, financially speaking. That song brings a ridiculous energy to the world. I love it.

Finally, on Twitter you’ve been talking about collecting fan’s teeth – tell us more…

I’m making something amazing but I can’t tell you what it is yet! I’ve collected over 300 teeth already and I still want more! I’m going to make something really magical. I have a whole box of teeth. I’m still collecting them and I would love for my fans to send me more. The address is on my Twitter!

You can get some UK teeth over while you’re here.

I really want some UK teeth! Please!

Americans say Brits have the worst teeth so you should get quite a few!

I’ll be the judge of that!

Ke$ha’s album Animal / Cannibal is out now. Here’s where you can catch her live this summer:

23 & 24 June – Glastonbury Festival

3 July – Wireless

3 July – Birmingham Academy

9 July – T In The Park

11 July – Manchester Apollo

13 July – London Hammersmith Apollo
