Ke$ha & Fredic Jameson

“You wouldn’t think we had stuff to talk about,” Ke$ha, the 25-year-old diva of gritty dance-pop, said on a recent spring Saturday at the Bowery Hotel. “There’s like, so much stuff, it’s hard not to talk about stuff,” she said, laughing. “He loves to talk!”

If the “We R Who We R” singer seems uncharacteristically defensive—everyone from her yoga instructor to her mediation coach has described her as friendly and warm—it’s only because a new high-profile friendship (and maybe more!) is the subject of spurious gossip within tabloids and academic quarterlies. Three weeks ago, at Ashley Tisdale’s Hamptons bash celebrating the success of Ashley Tisdale’s West Hollywood party from the week prior, Ke$ha arrived with a YSL carryall on one arm and postmodernist Fredric Jameson on the other.

“F is amazing,” she gushed. “I’ll be, like, complaining about my music-video director, and he’ll just put everything in perspective by being like, ‘The end of the bourgeois ego, or monad, no doubt brings with it the end of the psychopathologies of that ego—what I have been calling the waning of affect. But it means the end of much more—the end, for example, of style, in the sense of the unique and the personal, the end of the distinctive individual brush stroke (as symbolized by the emergent primacy of mechanical reproduction),’ or something, and he’s right.”

She continued, pointing to her ripped Blue Devils sweatshirt. “He teaches at Duke, so the long-distance thing is tough. And that rumor in the New York Review of Books is …” she trailed off, picking at a glittery bead in her hair.

Pic's from Ke$ha's set at Glastonbury

She's no stranger to rocking out on stage in a variety of skimpy outfits.

But in honour of her performance at Glastonbury last night, TiK ToK singer Ke$ha took to the stage wearing a ripped American flag T-shirt over a sparkly gold leotard.

The 24-year-old singer also donned a pair of light-up sunglasses and holey tights as she performed some of her hit tracks for the crowd.
It was the second day of performances at the festival for Ke$ha, who had taken to the stage in the East Dance tent the day before for a surprise set for fans as well.

After her performance, Ke$ha tweeted: 'My throat was bleeding.there's nothing more worth my blood than my fans. Ill scream till I bleed all summer long for u guys.'
She later added: 'Tomorrow!!Dance tent!! again!! I've been f***ing waiting my whole life for the chance to play glastonbury!!'

She’s fantastic," she told the Daily Star, adding to the newspaper: "When I went out on the road with her that was my first time touring arenas. "I’m just glad I have any fans. Playing to any number of people is awesome." Ke$ha talks Glasto, Britney and her next album

Whiskey-loving, party-starting pop-rapper Ke$ha is swapping the LA club scene this weekend for the muddy fields of Glastonbury. We caught up with the TiK ToK singer to find out what she has in store for festival goers, as well as her plans for her next album and why she’s collecting fan’s teeth.

You’re about to take the stage at Glastonbury. How are you feeling about performing at such an iconic festival?

I’m so excited about Glastonbury! It’s always epitomised success in my mind. It’s really exciting. I’ve wanted to play it for ages.

Considering it’s traditionally been a rock and indie festival, do you think the fact that more dance and pop acts are performing means the genres are being taken more seriously these days?

I’d never really thought of it like that but perhaps, and I love that because writing a pop song that can be successful all over the world in countries that don’t even speak English and connect to people. I have respect for people who can write amazing pop songs in the same way that I have respect for somebody who can write incredible indie music and rock’n’roll. I think there’s a craft to writing all different kinds of music.

What do you think about Beyonce headlining?

I’m a massive fan! I’ve always wanted to see her in concert, actually. Oh my god, her Billboard performance? Incredible.

You’ve also been quoted as saying you would like to join Britney on her new tour. Do you think that’s likely?

Well, if we’re ever in the same city at the same time then I’ll totally crash her tour!

You obviously wrote Till The World Ends and gave it to Britney. Is there a Britney song from her back catalogue that you wish had been yours to perform?

I’m obsessed with the song Toxic. I think it’s one of the best pop songs ever written.

You write all your own songs, as well for other people. Is it easier or harder to write for someone else?

It’s very different. I enjoy it. I like being able to put my brain into other people’s brain. I’ve written for Miley Cyrus and Britney and a bunch of other people and it’s fun to change it up a bit. When I’m writing for myself it’s really personal and very, very honest. When I’m writing for other people, I try to put myself in their shoes.

You’ve featured on singles with 3OH!3, Andre 300 and Taio Cruz. Are there any female artists you’d like to collaborate with in the future?

I love Adele. I’ve been listening to her recently and she’s so talented. I’d love to meet her. She’s amazing.

Your EP, Cannibal, was released in the UK earlier this year. Do you have a favourite track, and has that changed since doing the Sleazy tour and playing the tracks live?

I have never written such an intimate song as The Harold Song so I’m really proud of that one. I always like to talk sh*t and have my bad ass front, but that song is very genuine and very honest and very vulnerable. I do like that song a lot. I think that’s one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written. Playing it live can be hard to sing because it’s so real.

Rolling Stone magazine said the EP proves you “would kick Lady Gaga’s ass in a freestyle battle.” Do you think that’s true and how do you feel about being compared to other female artists?

Y’know, I get it all the time. I get compared to everyone and their brother. I’m really not trying to be anyone else. I’m rapping when I wanna rap, I’m singing when I wanna sing, I’m screaming when I wanna scream. Compare me to whoever you want and comparing me to a successful, strong woman like Lady Gaga is a huge compliment but I do think I’m very different to anybody out right now. Everyone has their talent but I think what I bring is very different.

A track called Tease Me by you recently leaked on the internet. Is it an offcut from Cannibal or a brand new track?

Yeah, I’ve written so many songs and honestly I know this sounds like bullsh*t but I’ve been writing since I was sixteen and I don’t even remember writing that song! I listened to and I was like, “that is me…” but I don’t remember writing it. I’ve written hundreds of songs, hundreds, and Tease Me must have been from when I was seventeen, eighteen. It’s a cool song though!

Have you started working on a fully-fledged second album yet?

I have! I’ve been writing as I’ve been touring and traveling the world and having all these crazy experiences! I’ve been writing a lot! I haven’t gone into the studio but all I know is that the next record is definitely going to have an extremely visceral attitude to do it.

Its been announced that TiK ToK was the biggest selling digital single in the world last year. How does that feel? Is that difficult to get your head around?

All the statistics go over my head. It’s very flattering but it’s not something I focus on. The thing I take most seriously is writing good music and performing for my fans and really connecting with them. That’s the most important thing to me. Even if I only perform to ten people, I take it just as seriously and give 100% to the point where I feel like I’m going to vomit! That statistic is amazing though – I didn’t even know that!

What is it about that song that seemed to connect with so many people?

It’s probably because I’m just being a total jackass! It’s really fun at a time when the world has been having our issues and its been rough for a lot of people, financially speaking. That song brings a ridiculous energy to the world. I love it.

Finally, on Twitter you’ve been talking about collecting fan’s teeth – tell us more…

I’m making something amazing but I can’t tell you what it is yet! I’ve collected over 300 teeth already and I still want more! I’m going to make something really magical. I have a whole box of teeth. I’m still collecting them and I would love for my fans to send me more. The address is on my Twitter!

You can get some UK teeth over while you’re here.

I really want some UK teeth! Please!

Americans say Brits have the worst teeth so you should get quite a few!

I’ll be the judge of that!

Ke$ha’s album Animal / Cannibal is out now. Here’s where you can catch her live this summer:

23 & 24 June – Glastonbury Festival

3 July – Wireless

3 July – Birmingham Academy

9 July – T In The Park

11 July – Manchester Apollo

13 July – London Hammersmith Apollo

Ke$ha Encourages Volunteerism in Nashville

Kesha may be most popular for her dirty girl antics, her glitter bombs and her condom canons, but underneath all the electric blue eyeliner and sassy talk is a bit of a humanitarian. Kesha is motivating fans to do something good for her Nashville hometown this summer by offering a concert ticket for her July 31 show (at the Municipal Auditorium in Music City) to those who register here and complete a volunteer service project on the Hands On Nashville Project Calendar.

“When I was growing up in Nashville I always had to sneak into shows, but I want to give you an opportunity to come for free. All you have to do is just help out our hometown. Sign up right now so we can party and I can’t wait to see you guys on the 31st of July!” the singer said in a statement.

Here’s some info if you are based in Nashville and want to help and score your free ticket. Volunteers must complete service between now and July 24, 2011 and there is a limited quantity of tickets available, so you are encouraged to act on the quick and to register immediately. Only one ticket is provided to each volunteer. Fans must be 10 or older to participate.

Do something for Nashville and then enjoy Kesha in concert next month. It’s a win-win.

Ke$ha Tells Vulture Why She Gave a Hit Song Away to Britney Spears

One of the bigger pop mysteries of recent months — beyond the location of Earl Sweatshirt — has to do with "Till the World Ends," the second single off Britney Spears's Femme Fatale. The extremely propulsive track, which is by far the strongest radio single on the record, has spent fourteen weeks on the Billboard "Hot 100" chart, most of them in the top ten (it's currently No. 9), and sold over a million copies. Even before it was a hit, it sounded like a hit, which leads to the mystery. Ke$ha wrote this song. Why would she turn over such an obvious smash to Britney Spears, when she could have kept it for herself? ("Till the World Ends" or "Tease Me"? No contest.) We caught up with a polished, yet still pantless Ke$ha at last night's amfAR Gala and asked her this very thing.

Here's what she said. "That song," Ke$ha explained, "I’ve never been more proud of anything in my career... It really solidifies me as a songwriter in the pop music world, which is what I consider myself first and foremost. So it actually is really, really exciting for me when I hear [Britney] sing it. Like, when I hear my own songs on the radio I have to kind of turn it down or change the radio or whatever. When I hear that, I fucking blow the speakers out and I order everybody to dance." So, basically, Ke$ha gave away "Till the World Ends," and not "Sleazy" because, just like you, she doesn't want to have to listen to the latter on the radio.

Ke$ha: 'Women can be more than sex objects'

Ke$ha has revealed that her personality can be intimidating to men.

The outspoken singer, who is working on a '70s rock-inspired album, insisted that she will never just sit around "looking pretty".

She told the News of the World: "It's important to show that women can be so much more than sex objects - you'll never see me just sitting there looking pretty.

"Maybe some guys are put off from approaching me because I intimidate them, but, if so, good. Guys should be scared of me.

"I realize I polarise opinions, but you can either join my party or f**k off, because I'm not going anywhere."

The 24-year-old, who was romantically linked to dance music artist Calvin Harris when she was on tour with Rihanna in Australia in March, said that she believes she is an inspiration to women because she isn't a "beauty queen" or a "cheerleader".

She commented: "I was the gawky kid at school. It's empowering for me and all the girls who aren't beauty queens or cheerleaders to see someone succeed by being strong and opinionated."

Where To Buy Eco-Friendly Feathers? Ke$ha Knows!

Ke$ha loves her feathers but she’ll only wear them if they’re cruelty-free!

“I’m hearing about roosters that have been plucked and hurt or even killed for their feathers…,” the 24-year-old pop phenom recently tweeted.

Meet my friend Kate!” she wrote in another tweet along with a link to a magazine profile of the designer.
